-
Accomodation is the ability of the eye to
bring to focus clearly an object lying
between eye and a distance of one meter.
-
A child has accommodation up to 7 cm; there
is a gradual decrease in the power of
accommodation with age, which becomes very
marked after 30 years of age.
-
Accommodation should be measured
independently in each eye.
-
The Ivory card of the binocular gauge and
the scale are used.
The scale is kept at the
infra-orbital margin and one eye is closed
or covered.
-
The card is kept at about 20 cm from the
candidate on the scale.
He is instructed to read letter “ALT”
on the card, to keep looking at the letters
and inform the examiner when the letters
start blurring.
-
The card is then gradually brought towards
the eye and the point where the letters
start blurring is noted.
I
-
t is denoted as “Accommodation Right Eye 14
cm, Lt Eye 14 cm”.
-
To confirm the above, the card is then moved
from the nearest position to the eye to the
far end with instruction to the candidate to
inform the examiner when he can read letter
“ALT”.
